First Great Wolf Lodge Visit!

A giant indoor waterpark? Yes, please! The Traveling Butlers decided to make a one night stay in Lagrange, GA for a stay at the brand new Great Wolf Lodge.  This is an amazing place where you will really need more than one night to get the full experience. Since we had one night, we certainly made the most of it!

Check in time is at 4pm, but you are able to get into the water park at 1pm. For an even better surprise, I was texted by the hotel at 8:36am letting me know my room was ready. We were happy to get there a little after 1pm and just check right into the room.  That allowed us to take our time and get ready for the waterpark.

And then came the sweet sweet fun times!

We played in the wave pool, rode on water slides, and swam around in the lazy river. We were able to get a lot of water time in for a few hours. You would think that this would tire the kids out and then they would go to bed early, right? Well, the adults wanted to at least.

We  went in to the “hoity toity” restaurant in the Lodge, named Barnwood. Kerri and I shared a bottle of wine, and ordered their gluten free fried green tomatoes with Cajun buttermilk sauce. This menu item alone was enough to make Kerri’s entire night! We both decided that we wanted the shrimp and grits with roasted jalapeno cream. It was very tasty, but it made me glad we got the appetizer, due to the small portion.

From there we did some shopping! I had remembered Kingston’s pajamas, but forgot to pack Breah’s. Thankfully the store had a set of pajamas in Breah’s size. We also picked up a pair of wolf feet for both of them!

After running back up to the room and getting them changed into their pajamas, we went right back down and joined the nightly PJ party, where they had pop songs jamming out for the kids to enjoy. Kingston was “slightly” annoyed that they didn’t play rock songs, but got over it quickly. The Great Wolf staff did a great job in dancing with the kids! Kingston may have developed a little crush on one of the ladies.

Story time! The staff brought out Brinley the Bear, and they read a Great Wolf themed story to the kids. I was very surprised to see all of the kids sitting quietly and paying attention. I may need to hire this team out on a nightly basis. Once the story was done, it was time for pictures with Brinley! Breah managed to jump up and karate chop her way to the second spot in line. I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud of her.

After yet another PJ dance party, we were finally able to make our way back to bed. Our room was on the top floor, so thankfully we didn’t have to deal with hearing kids above us stomping all over the floors. I’d also like to take this moment to apologize to the room below us, due to our kids stomping all over the floors.

After getting a good rest in, we had breakfast at Dunkin Donuts, and then packed up our room and checked out of the hotel. The fun wasn’t done, though! We put our swimsuits back on and went back to the water park. We swam outside in the big pool, then went back in for the wave pool. From there it was back on the water slides!

After a few more hours of playtime, it was time to get back on the road. We’re already planning another trip back, but for two or three nights next time. Also, after spending time there, there are a number of ways that I can see where I could have planned better to get a better value out of my stay. But overall I’d highly recommend The Great Wolf Lodge!
